The renewal of Álex Rins is news that makes us very happy, because we all know that Álex has had a long season with many difficulties to ride at his highest level. All due to the recovery, which is still ongoing, from the injury suffered in his foot and hand during the race in the Netherlands in 2023.
It is only fair that a rider of Alex’s talent, character and likeability is guaranteed a couple more years in the top category of motorcycling so that he can once again bring us the great riding that he is known for. Rins is a rider who traces and is as fine as few others, a style that fits perfectly with the Yamaha, but he has not had the time or condition to demonstrate it.
If we talk only about victories, the Yamaha rider has six in MotoGP, four in Moto2 and eight in Moto3. Perfectly valid numbers if we compare them with the current average of the grid. In short, we believe that he is an outstanding rider, but that the burden of his latest injury has not allowed him to shine as he should.
Official statements from Alex Rins and Lin Jarvis
«I am very happy to continue working with Yamaha for two more years, and I want to thank the team and the management at Iwata for the trust they have placed in me. We have a clear objective, to take Yamaha where it should be, and that is to fight for the championships. From the first minute, I have seen Yamaha’s will to improve and how they are putting all their resources into achieving that goal. As a result, and thanks to our work, we have made important steps in that direction this season, and we want to continue like this in the coming years.«.
«I am delighted to continue to bring my MotoGP experience and work ethic to a team that has proven to be pushing very hard together and will continue to do so.«.
Yamaha Motor Racing Director Lin Jarvis has expressed his delight at having Rins for another two seasons.
«Alex is not only a very talented and fast rider, but he is also technically adept, a hard worker and a true team player. The collaboration between Alex and Fabio gives Yamaha the confidence that together they can strengthen the development project of the bike.«.
«Now that the 2025-26 Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP rider line-up is set, we are looking forward to the next 11 races of the 2024 season with Alex and Fabio fully focused on the task at hand.«.
Lin Jarvis is already working on Yamaha’s return to the top
Jarvis also adds that Yamaha intends to return to the top of the MotoGP championship as a manufacturer. He announces that he has hired new staff and restructured the brand’s organisation, as well as adding a second factory team by 2025.
Hopefully, the combination of an improvement in Alex Rins’ physical condition and a great leap forward by the Japanese brand will lead us to see them soon competing at the level to which we are accustomed.
