He BMW Concept Skytop is a convertible prototype that the brand is presenting at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este 2024, the annual beauty contest for historic cars and motorcycles held on the shores of Lake Como. It features a convertible that connects with roadsters emblematic of the firm, such as the BMW Z8 or the BMW 503.
«It is a truly unique and exotic design. “It offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level,” says Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. On the outside, the taut and muscular surfaces stand out, defined by a few lines that direct the volume of the vehicle towards the rear. The door handles are replaced by fins discreetly integrated into the shoulders of the doors and it has light alloy wheels.
On the front, the hood with a shark nose design stands out and the classic kidney grille is not missing. A striation extends from the hood, through the interior, to an aluminum trim on the tailgate. It has custom-developed LED optics, with the thinnest profile that can be manufactured today and that integrate all functions. At the rear, flat headlights were chosen.
Behind the two seats of this convertible there is a roll bar finished in leather, combined with side fins on the B-pillar and a retractable rear window. The two removable parts of the roof, also finished in leather, have a special compartment in the trunk to store them. Special attention has been paid to the bodywork: the reddish-brown tone of the roof flows into the muted silver with a shadow effect.
Stylish leather surfaces brogue characterize the interior. The surfaces have a reddish brown tone to give more of a feeling of luxury and spaciousness. The cabin is decorated with glass applications. All of these finishes were made in the traditional saddlery at the BMW Group plant in Dingolfing.
Ah! And if you were wondering what propulsion system powers this vehicle, no electrification. Like the legendary BMW Z8, the BMW Concept Skytop equips the V8 engine most powerful in the BMW range of engines.
