Can-Am is betting big on electric. Now he is working on a new naked model

Recently, one of the images of the latest patent registration carried out by Can-Am has been leaked and this has raised quite a few doubts about what the Canadian brand could be preparing within its R&D department.

Furthermore, its descriptive text increases this technical uncertainty, basically because it leaves such relevant aspects as the traction issue used in the air.

New Can-Am patent in detail

It is not the first time, as is evident, that we are aware of some of the patents that Can-Am regularly presents in the respective registration offices throughout the planet. However, on this specific occasion, a wide range opens up on what the brand could be planning for the near future.

We are talking about a possible model that, to begin with, is not clear to which segment it could belong, if it becomes a reality. Although everything indicates that we would be looking at a naked type frame, international media such as Ride Apart are betting that it would be closer to a Streetfighter model than to a roadster for normal use.

Can-Am could be working on a new electric naked or Streetfighter model

Both the position of the handlebar and its shape suggest a motorcycle developed under this latest design philosophy. However, the rest of the assembly and even the inclination of the handlebar itself could lead us to believe that we are talking about a similar model, aesthetically speaking, to a Ducati Streetfighter.

Beyond the segment where the future Can-Am mount could be included, there are details that are even more relevant and that are related to essential technical aspects, such as traction. Regarding this, the descriptive text of the specific patent itself that we would be facing:

“A vehicle that includes (…) at least one front wheel rotatably connected to the battery pack housing; at least one rear wheel rotatably connected to the battery pack housing; (…); and an electric motor operatively connected to at least one front wheel and to the at least one rear wheel.”

Can-Am could be working on a new electric naked or Streetfighter model

So, at this point, endless possibilities open up about the type of motorcycle that Can-Am could be working on. Furthermore, this topic leads us to remember when the brand registered a series of patents related to a fully modular motorcycle, from its chassis to the swingarm.

So, back in March 2022, we were counting on how Can-Am would be preparing an adaptable chassis and swingarm, through which and by modifying its geometries, we would obtain several motorcycle concepts as a result. A trail bike, a sports bike, a cruiser, a naked bike and even a scrambler could be part of these categories.

Now we just have to wait for new data about this mysterious patent and its final approach, or if we could definitely be talking about a new model integrated into the brand’s new range of models, where it uses a common platform for both, including Rotax E-Power electric motor (11 kW or 35 kW) and a battery with 8.9 kWh capacity.
