from the Dakar to ride his motorcycle 42 meters under water

The world of records is endless and Tiziano Internò’s challenge proves it because, as much as we have seen raid motorcycles evolve in recent years, we would not expect any of them to work underwater. And we are not saying inside, that on some occasions they have to ford rivers, we are talking about completely submerged.

Because the challenge that Tiziano had before him was to go down with his motorcycle to the bottom of the Y-40 The Deep Joy, the deepest thermal pool in the world that is 42.15 meters deep! Before continuing with the story, taking into account that the average per floor of a building is 3 meters, we would be saying that the pool in which Tiziano immersed himself was the equivalent of a 14-story building.

So, as you can imagine, going down to a depth like that and doing it safely is not something that can be done overnight for safety reasons. But, in addition to the training that we would have to carry out to descend as simple divers to 42 meters, Tiziano Internò had to do it on his motorcycle.

The preparation of Tiziano Internò and his motorcycle to achieve the goal

For the record to be valid, the Italian had to be on and in contact with his motorcycle at all times, riding it. And this is when everything becomes a little more complicated, because for that to happen the descent had to be fully adapted to turn it into a kind of mini-submarine.

The descent and ascent had to be autonomous and controlled and, in addition, for Tiziano’s own safety reasons, they had to follow a specific descent rate of 20 meters per minute, in addition to directing the machine because the pool narrows to the 15 meters and only one well goes down. Then, the climb was planned at 9 meters per minute (maximum), with a 3-minute stop when 5 meters remained to avoid decompression problems.

Well, for all that modifications had to be made. The tanks began to insert air lungs, which were responsible for managing the water and air inside, and thus being able to control the speed of rise and fall. In addition to that, the motorcycle had a propeller to drive underwater, and so we could see Tiziano even doing some submerged wheelie. To achieve this, the motorcycle had multiple modifications but without altering the aesthetics.

Quite a challenge that the Italian pilot was preparing with great diving and freediving professionals, working for a while before entering such deep waters. Now, in addition, Tiziano has the advantage that to beat his record they will have to do it in a non-thermal pool, so the record for a thermal pool will be his until they build a deeper one. Of course, in case you were wondering, the pool (regardless of its waters) is in Dubai and measures 60 meters.
