Honda has issued a new official communication to update the situation after the fire that occurred last Friday at its Barcelona facilities, located in Santa Perpètua de Mogoda. The information allows us to more precisely define which areas of the complex have been affected and which have been left out of the fire, although the company has not yet made a specific assessment of the economic or operational scope of the damage.
The most relevant thing remains that all employees were evacuated safely and that there were no injuries. In an incident of these characteristics, which occurred in an industrial and logistics complex of great importance for Honda’s activity in the Iberian Peninsula, the absence of personal injuries continues to be the most important fact.
Honda’s facilities in Barcelona are divided into four independent areas. The first is a logistics distribution center for motorcycles for Iberia, that is, Spain and Portugal, as well as parts and accessories for all Honda divisions – motorcycles, automobiles and power products – for Spain, Portugal and the south of France. The second corresponds to the production plant for Montesa trial motorcycles and motorcycle accessories. The third groups together the commercial sales and financial services offices in Iberia. The fourth is the Honda Institute of Safety, known as HIS, the center dedicated to the training of motorcyclists.
This internal division is key to understanding the confirmed scope of the fire. Honda has indicated that buildings used by production, sales, financial services and the Honda Safety Institute were not damaged. Therefore, the Montesa plant, the commercial and financial services offices, as well as the motorcyclist training center, have not been affected by the fire.
The most damaged part, according to the company itself, corresponds to the logistics facilities. Honda speaks of “considerable damage” in this area, although for the moment it has not detailed the exact degree of damage, nor has it specified what volume of material, spare parts, accessories, vehicles or logistical infrastructure may have been compromised.
Even so, the brand wanted to convey a message of continuity to dealers and customers. Honda assures that its customers remain the top priority and that, with the support of the company’s European network and its global resources, it is adapting its supply chain to minimize any possible impact on service. This response points to a logistical reorganization to try to maintain the activity with the least possible damage to the network of dealers and end users.
The affected area is not minor within Honda’s structure in the region. As it is a logistics center linked to the distribution of motorcycles in Spain and Portugal, as well as parts and accessories from various divisions for Spain, Portugal and the south of France, its operation has a direct importance on the supply of product and components. However, the company itself insists that it is activating European and global resources to cushion any impact.
The communication also includes express thanks to the Fire Department of the Generalitat de Catalunya. Honda has highlighted its quick and effective action, stressing that the intervention prevented more serious damage. In this type of event, the speed of response by emergency services is decisive, especially when the fire affects facilities with logistical activity and stored material.
