Hidden behind the powerful Kawasaki Ninja H2 SXand as we already told you at the time, on the Elvington track (York), thousands of motor sports fans gathered on Sunday, August 18 to witness how the British stunt driver Jonny Davies set a new Guinness World Record for the “highest speed reached while being dragged behind a motorcycle«.
This is Jonny Davies’ record on a Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX
Jonny Daviestwo-time British stunt champion and now three-time world record holder, achieved an impressive speed of 256 km/h while skiing after a Kawasaki H2 SX supercharged and with a pair of titanium shoes specially designed for the Englishman’s feat.
Coming out from the rear of the bike before switching to a new handgrip-mounted thumb throttle, Davies surpassed the previous record of 251 km/h, set in 1999 by Liverpool stunt legend, Gary Rothwellaboard a Suzuki Hayabusa.
«I think I got to 177 km/h before I let go of the rear end, and I wasn’t really going completely straight. As soon as I got in line, I sped off the gas and didn’t let go.“, he declared Jonny Davies to our colleagues.
By the way, the record was achieved during the high-speed vehicle event “Ultimate Supercar”, in the second official attempt to Jonny that day. On his first attempt, he reached 249 km/h, after having achieved 210 km/h in the practice run.
“It was a wild and bumpy ride”, he continued Jonny Daviesalso known as JD Stunts. “My left foot started to lift up as the boots folded up at the toes and air rushed in underneath, lifting it off the ground for an instant. It was pretty chaotic, but the bike remained super stable. The Ninja H2 SX was an awesome machine, perfect for the job. I’m overwhelmed by it all. It’s been a long process of preparation and finally breaking the record feels amazing.”.
The Ninja H2 SXvalued at 26,199 euroswas provided by Kawasaki UK following an agreement made during a meeting at the fair Motorcycle Live from last year in the NEC from Birmingham.
Ross Burridgemarketing and competitions director of Kawasaki UKstated: «Jonny has been a dream come true. We have worked with many people in the past but rarely do we find someone so grateful for the support he receives, not just from us but from those around him. In addition, we will have the bike at Motorcycle Live. It will be on display proudly, showing what it is capable of. Although the average customer will not use the bike in the same way, it is fantastic to be able to demonstrate its speed and stability, characteristics that users will be able to value in their daily riding.”.
«It’s amazing because Jonny has exceptional talent“, he commented Trevor Duckworthdirector of Straightliners (event organizers). «We have set many records with aerobatic pilots over the years, and honestly, Jonny is one of the best. From day one, Jonny has been extremely professional. He has been increasing his speed progressively, and he has done it the way we like to see.«.
