Until now we have known several models from Mercedes-Maybach, the luxury sub-brand (like Mercedes-AMG is the sports brand) of the Stuttgart-based company. They have created superb cars based on the Mercedes S-Class and the Mercedes GLS, for example, and now, with the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series They enter the world of large convertibles, taking them to a new dimension.
Presented at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, it will be available in Europe from spring 2025. The launch edition belongs to the Monogram Serieswith two design concepts, Red Ambience and White Ambience, with the bonnet and hood in contrasting black and the Maybach logo pattern –on request–… although the brand already indicates that they can be chosen in the colour that the customer wants (and pays for).
Compared to the Mercedes-AMG SL, it features a specific illuminated chrome radiator grille surround as well as a Maybach logo. The bonnet features an upright Mercedes star and a chrome fin runs down the centre from front to back. The graphite grey Maybach pattern on the bonnet involves hand-sanding the paint, printing it and then coating the bonnet with clear matt lacquer, hand-sanding it again and coating it with another layer of clear matt lacquer.
The headlights are trimmed in rose gold and the front apron emphasises the width with horizontal air intakes. The windscreen frame is finished in high-gloss chrome. 21-inch forged wheels in 5-hole or multi-spoke design complete the car. The soundproofed soft top with extensive sound insulation is made of light black fabric with the Maybach motif subtly incorporated in anthracite.
Inside, the crystal white, hand-tanned Nappa leather creates an exquisite ambience. You find it on the door panels, centre console and seats, with a floral design upholstery. Even behind them, it has been covered in white leather. There is a digital instrument cluster and adjustable centre display, with Maybach-specific animations… as well as the steering wheel, stainless steel pedals and door sill trims.
In terms of mechanics, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 relies on the 585 hp 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine from the Mercedes-AMG SL 63, with a 9G-Tronic automatic transmission, 4Matic+ all-wheel drive system and rear-axle steering. Want even more? Maybach Icons of Luxury offers a collection with items such as a leather jacket, sneakers, a scarf, a handbag and a dog bag, inspired by the design of the car. Its design is inspired by the materials and colours of the two-seater convertible.
