The always versatile Oberdan Bezzi has been in the news again in recent hours after the publication of a virtual render of what, according to him, should be the natural successor to the personal V85 TT, and which he has named under the acronym V90 TT.
A model clearly focused on a more rugged use than the current Adventure from the Italian company, and which also appears to be a motorcycle that promises to be decidedly different and advanced. Bezzi himself assures that “After seven years of exemplary service, MOTO GUZZI could decide that the time has come for its V85TT to disappear permanently from the market and make way for a new successor.”
The V90 TT as a realistic and efficient alternative
The idea is clear and the concept totally realistic and interesting: with the V90 TT, Bezzi does not intend to stray too far from the standard offered by the V85 TT. Rather, improve it in favor of better off-road capabilities, thanks to the adoption of a list of key elements with which to undertake such a challenge. But let’s go in parts, starting with the technical configuration currently used by the Moto Guzzi ADV model.
Starting with its engine 853cc air-cooled 90° transverse V-twin and with Ride by Wire. This mechanical architecture manages to offer a final power of 80 HP at 7,750 rpm 83 Nm of maximum torque with the engine rotating at 5,100 revolutions. It is possible that a possible V90 TT would somewhat increase the internal dimensions of the block to increase the displacement, around 900 cm³.
However, where Bezzi puts all his attention when configuring his virtual concept is in the cycle part of the model. In this regard he himself explains: “The chassis has changed size and incorporates a completely different rear suspension. The wheels are now 21″ at the front and 18″ at the rear.” As we see in the images, the V90 TT comes to equip a central monoshock, relegating the lateral equipment without linkages that is offered on the V85 TT.
This would help to gain distance, a fundamental aspect if the objective is to improve the off-road capabilities of the model. All this with a revised chassis at all levels, including a newly designed inverted fork and, most likely, a braking kit adapted to the new needs of the bike. Oberdan further clarifies:
“It has new electronics and instrumentation, as well as, of course, a more modern and aggressive aesthetic designed to attract a younger and sportier audience”. On the whole “the robustness and reliability of the old version of the Mandello Tuttoterreno have been maintained and even improved, in addition to a decidedly more marked off-road capability”comments Bezzi himself.
The main idea of this approach would be to be able to look face to face at reference rivals within the ADV category with clear hard-core overtones such as, for example, the Ducati DesertX, the Yamaha Ténéré 700 or the KTM 890 Adventure R. Obi ends up stating what many Moto Guzzi fans think and remain silent:
“With this new V90 TT, Moto Guzzi clearly aims to become a quality Italian alternative to the countless oriental proposals in the medium-high displacement crossover range.
