The GP25 will run with the 2024 engine and that is just the beginning

Having a motorcycle as dominating as the GP24 and making the GP25 even better, it is something that seems that Ducati has not achieved. At least in regards to the engine, since the GP25 will have the 2024 engine, something that will also happen in 2026.

No one could deal with the Ducati GP24 and it was expected that the Ducati GP25 would be more effective, reliable and fast than its predecessor. But the preseason tests have made, finally, the Italian firm chooses to completely discard the GP25 engine and continue working with that of the GP24.

Facing outside, both Márquez and Bagnaia had affirmed that the engine was competitive, although Marc himself admitted that he had some weak points. These points must be much more committed to what it might seem, because it has been Davide Rardazzi himself who has spoken that in Ducati and, especially Dall’igna, they do not want to run any risk.

Therefore, we know that the Ducati GP25 will carry inside the 2024 engine, but as the development will be frozen by 2026, they will also use it in the last campaign of the current regulation.

Perhaps in view of the performance of the engine of last season, which remains tremendously competitive, and taking into account that it was reliable and that a bad decision would two years, finally that path has been decided.

But that’s not all, because it seems that Ducati GP25 pilots, at least Bagnaia and Márquez (since Di Gianantonio has practically not being able to prove anything due to injury), they should not be 100% convinced of the chassis and the aerodynamics of 2025 .

«The most difficult thing for Ducati this winter has been to decide not to use new components in which we had a lot of confidence. The 2025 engine or chassis have not worked as we expected (…). We had to accept that we could not improve what we already had. GP24 is an exceptional motorcycle. I do not dare to say that it is perfect, but exceptional. It will be difficult to improve it, although we will try to do it after the Jerez tests ».

Of course, in Ducati they are not resigned to that decision, which if taken will be carried out in the next few hours, and latezzi himself has assured that they will continue working to be able to prove new solutions in the Jerez tests. It seems that nothing of the Ducati GP25 has worked as expected:

«I think that the definitive decision on the fairing and the chassis will be taken tonight, and I think that, having frozen the engine, we will postpone for the Jerez tests other novelties that we have here and that we want to try again. There are some elements related to electronics and suspensions ».

Even so, they hope to have everything ready for the first race in a pair of weekends: “It will be a great effort for our boys in the factory to build the engines for our three official pilots for the first race.”
