The motorcycle and light vehicle sector grows by 13.3% in July 2024 with 25,540 units

According to ANESTHORa greater number of motorcycles and light vehicles in circulation contributes to sustainable mobility, although it also demands greater attention to road safety. Motorcycles stood out with an increase of 15.7%, reaching 22,555 units.

Last July, the motorcycle and light vehicle sector recorded its best performance for that month since 2009, with the exception of July 2020, which was atypical due to the impact of COVID-19 on registrations. So far this year, there has been a growth of 4.6%, with a total of 143,301 registrations.

There are more and more motorcycles on the road, which is undoubtedly good news for sustainable mobility. However, we must not forget that motorcycles are vulnerable, so the challenge of safety is ever greater..

In light of this growth, the association urges motorcyclists to take extreme precautions and use their motorcycles responsibly. Riaño It also calls on the administrations to take action, stressing that safety does not depend solely on pilots.

Motorcycle sales are on the rise

In terms of type, road bikes experienced an increase of 24.3% (9,284 units), followed by scooters with 11% (12,563 units) and off-road bikes, which grew by 1% (699 units). By displacement, the greatest growth was in high-displacement motorcycles (+750 cc), with 28.2% (3,575 units), followed by medium-displacement motorcycles (125 cc-750 cc) with 19.5% (6,523 units), and low-displacement motorcycles, which also increased by 11% (12,457 units).

In terms of distribution channels, rental grew by 34% (359 units), the private market increased by 19% (20,372 units) and the business market decreased by 12.4% (1,824 units). With this data, motorcycles have accumulated a growth of 6.2% in 2024 (128,466 units).

Motorcycle registrations in Spain

Mopeds experienced a 6% drop (1,761 units). However, the private channel boosted registrations, reaching 1,479 registrations, representing an increase of 24%. The rental channel also grew significantly, by 39% (67 units), while the company channel caused the decline with 68% (215 units). In the year-to-date, mopeds have fallen by 16.2% (7,503 units).

Compared to other L-category vehicles, light and heavy quadricycles grew by 22.4% (360 units) and 14% (474 ​​units) respectively in July, while tricycles fell by 16.1% (390 units). So far this year, heavy quadricycles have grown by 17.6% (2,977 units), while light quadricycles and tricycles have decreased by 0.5% (2,062 units) and 9.2% (2,293 units), respectively.

Motorcycle registrations in Spain

By Autonomous Communities, Navarra (+61%), Aragon (+57%) and La Rioja (+31%) were the ones that registered the highest percentage growth in July, while Catalonia (5,907 units), Andalusia (5,677 units) and Valencia (3,198 units) are the ones that lead the ranking in terms of registered units.
