This is how Bajaj performed brutal crash tests on its CNG motorcycle (video)

On a conventional motorcycle, the fuel tank is the most dangerous element. In the event of an accident, the amount of fuel inside can spill out if it breaks, causing a fire (not an explosion). But when we also add a CNG tank, as in the case of the Bajaj Freedom CNG that we talked about in the last few days, the danger increases exponentially.

That’s why Bajaj subjected its bike to all kinds of modifications and crash tests. To start with, the main CNG tank is encapsulated inside another tank, which is in turn enclosed in a steel frame. This meant that weights had to be redistributed, as well as the position of the engine, so that the balance of the bike would remain unchanged.

The interesting part came later, as it was time to subject the bike to all kinds of cars and mischief. The video recorded by the Rushlane colleagues is priceless.

Bajaj Freedom CNG hit by a truck

In it we can see how, first, they launch the Bajaj Freedom CNG against a block of one and a half tons. The relative speed of the motorcycle was 60 km/h, very similar to that used in car crash tests. Then they subject the tank to lateral impacts and falls. But the best is yet to come at the end.

This is when they simulate being run over by a 10-ton truck, which they have no qualms about literally running over with all their wheels. In all cases, the tank remains intact or with minor damage, but it never had any kind of leak, demonstrating the safety with which it can be used on public roads.
