Toyota GR 86 Rally Legacy Concept: with all-wheel drive and desired by everyone

There are few cars as purist as the Toyota GR 86. The Japanese-powered coupé has always been postulated as an option to offer sensations like those of yesteryear. It will not be as effective or as powerful as other products in the GR range, but it is one of the most appreciated. Now a version desired by everyone is becoming a reality, or at least conceptually. He Toyota GR 86 Rally Legacy Concept It is a prototype with many competition airs that is also inspired by models from the past.

Who doesn’t remember the Celica GT-Four rally? Those beasts that competed in the 90s and that were driven by renowned pilots have remained engraved in the memory of the most petrolhead. The decoration is a clear nod to those models, with the color Halo White for its bodywork and red and green details. There is also no shortage of rally fenders, a custom exhaust in central position or a spoiler like the one on the GT-Four. The cabin is racing, with a competition cage and buckets with red six-point harnesses.

However, the most interesting thing about the Toyota GR 86 Rally Legacy Concept are your insides. It does not maintain the 2.4-liter four-cylinder naturally aspirated boxer engine of the GR 86, it has adapted the base of the Toyota GR Corolla. That translates into the same 1.6-liter three-cylinder G16E-GTS engine that we see in the GR Yaris, with a power that rises to 305 HP and 370 Nm of torque. It has the potential for more and has been upgraded with a high-performance intercooler and a racing ECU.

Not to mention that he rides the GR-Four all-wheel drive system of the brand to be much more effective, especially off the asphalt. Modifications had to be made at the chassis level to obtain the necessary clearance for the driveline and suspension. They also made adjustments to the front suspension so that that axle could move correctly. Was installed a differential and the six-speed manual transmission with iMT technology was maintained. Unfortunately, it looks like this version won’t make it to production.
